Locally-grown fruit and veggies are getting some well-deserved attention.
The author of a new book, Freshly Picked: A Locavore's Love Affair with BC's Bounty, is visiting 撸奶社区next month.
Jane Reid will be at the 撸奶社区Public Library from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 in a free event to talk about and read from her book.
Each chapter in the book features an individual fruit of vegetable that is grown in B.C. Several of the chapters have appeared in Edible Vancouver & Wine Country magazine over the past two years.
In the book, Reid passes on stories of local farming, the traditions of preserving foods and the benefits of eating locally grown fruits and vegetables.
鈥淓ach chapter includes stories about my affectionate personal relationship with our harvests, fascinating facts about them (like the sex life of corn), how and when they are grown, hints for buying, storing and preserving, and finally, a simple recipe or two,鈥 said Reid, who lives with her family in Whistler.聽
