This annual event has become as much a staple of September in Canada as back-to-school.
The 39th Annual Terry Fox Run is set for Sunday, Sept 15.
Squamish's five-kilometre run starts at 10 a.m.at Brennan Park Rec Centre. Registration is at 9 a.m.
The local race is suitable for more than just runners and walkers, organizers say. Those on bikes, wheelchairs, strollers, and rollerblades are invited to take to the course as well.
Dogs on a leash are also welcome.
Terry Fox鈥檚 Marathon of Hope sees hundreds of thousands of people come together each September to move in memory of the young man with cancer who first captured the country's heart in 1980 with his attempt to run from coast to coast.
Approximately 10,000 fundraising events take place nationwide and have raised more than $750 million for cancer research.
鈥淐ancer is playing an increasing role in all our lives,鈥 said 撸奶社区event organizer Judy Pace in a news release. 鈥淚t seems like everyone has either been affected or knows someone affected by cancer. Part of Terry Fox鈥檚 legacy is how he turned something tragic into something positive and we are hoping the community of 撸奶社区is ready to show up, get out, and raise some money in support of Terry鈥檚 dream.鈥
