Get your donations ready, folks.
Saturday, Sept. 21 is collection day in ߣÄÌÉçÇøfor the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive Project — an annual province-wide initiative that helps feed the hungry.
Locally, the BCTFD event typically involves about 100 volunteers who visited 4,000 homes and collected more than 9,000 pounds of non-perishable food for the ߣÄÌÉçÇøFood Bank during the 2018 event.
The ߣÄÌÉçÇødrive is co-ordinated by the ߣÄÌÉçÇøMultifaith Association in partnership with the ߣÄÌÉçÇøbranch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ߣÄÌÉçÇøFood Bank.
"Many people in ߣÄÌÉçÇøexperience food shortages, causing them and their children to go without meals and proper nutrition," said Emma Cox of the ߣÄÌÉçÇøFood Bank, in a news release.
Between 400 and 500 people rely on the ߣÄÌÉçÇøFood Bank every month, including seniors, those on disability or assistance, employed people with low incomes, families, and children, according to Cox.
During the food drive, residents can donate non-perishable food items or cash.
Donation bags and boxes will be picked up from homes on the morning of Sept. 21 and then brought directly to ߣÄÌÉçÇøFood Bank where they will be sorted and stocked.
This year, to cut down on single-use plastic bags, participants are asked to put food donations in a box or previously-used bag.Â
